Track & Field: Huskies find success at New England Championships

Senior Jessica Barton and freshman Brian Doyle both won the 3,000-meter run in the New England Indoor Championship meet at BU Feb. 26, leading their teams to success. The women placed second out of 34, while the men finished fifth out of 34.

Womens Basketball: Losing streak reaches ten

Sophomore guard Deanna Kerkhof led the Huskies in scoring against Georgia State Sunday with 15 points, shooting 5-9 from behind the 3-point line. But her efforts we not enough as the women’s basketball team fell to the Panthers 57-44.

This Friday marks the sixth year of Northeastern's trip to Richmond for the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) men's basketball tournament. A lot has changed since the Huskies' first trip to the Richmond Coliseum, both on and off the court.

Player of the Week:Tyler McNeely

Senior Tyler McNeely scored his 100thcareer point against the University of New Hampshire) with an assist on senior Wade MacLeod’s third period power play goal last Saturday, the 46th person in NU history to reach this mark. His accomplishment earned him Huntington News Player of the Week honors.

Baseball: Huskies’ hope new-look outfield takes shape

The Huskies return this season after losing seven seniors, including the entire outfield, from the 2010 squad. This, combined with the 13-31 record the team posted, are perhaps the driving force behind the CAA coaches’ decision to vote the Huskies last in the conference. That hasn’t phased Williams or his teammates, including junior and 2010 All-CAA first team pitcher Andrew Leenhouts.

Men’s Basketball: Lee, Allen aid slim win

The men’s hockey team busted through top-ranked Boston College Saturday night, tightening up on defense in a 2-1 victory to clinch a playoff spot in front of a capacity crowd of 4,666 at Matthews Arena.

Women’s Hockey: Antflick helps clinch playoff spot

The women’s hockey team clinched a fifth-place playoff spot this weekend when senior forward Lori Antflick scored the game-tying goal to help the Huskies skate to a 1-1 contest against the University of Connecticut Sunday.

Women’s Basketball: Offense hits new low

Last Sunday, the women’s basketball team surrendered just 48 points, their second-lowest total of the season, to the University of North Carolina-Wilmington Seahawks. But unfortunately for the Huskies, they also scored their lowest total of the season, losing 48-33.

Player of the Week: Christine Huber

Sophomore Christine Huber registered her second double-double of the season against UNC Wilmington for the women’s basketball team. She had the high score for the team with 10 points, 13 rebounds and four blocks. In the past four games, she has scored a total of 34 points and 25 rebounds. Her performance has earned her Huntington News Player of the Week honors.

Column: No coach, no problem

The Athletic Department announced Friday that it is conducting an internal investigation of the program for possible NCAA recruitment violations. During the time of the investigation, head coach Greg Cronin and assistant coach Albie O’Connell have been suspended indefinitely, leaving assistant coach Sebastien Laplante in control of the team.

Men’s Hockey: Huskies clip No. 1 Eagles

With head coach Greg Cronin temporarily suspended for potential recruiting violations, the men’s hockey team turned up the heat on No. 1 Boston College with a 2-1 victory at sold-out Matthews Arena Saturday night. With the win, the Huskies clinched a spot in the Hockey East playoffs.
