Most college students in this city have, at least once, met some crazy, memorable characters on the late night streets of Boston. Imagine preserving those memories on film and sharing them with the world on a website dedicated to the finest elements of nightlife in the Hub. Edek Wasilewski, a middler communication studies major, wanted to share his own funny stories, so he created a website to make this possible. He and his six-person team are launching the full version of Bostonsfinest.tv April 20. Currently, a preview site is up with a video the team made at the St. Patrick’s Day parade in Southie. While videos of late night shenanigans are going to be the top feature of Boston’s Finest, the site will have other highlights such as blogs, a Twitter feed, nightlife advice and other items that reflect culture in Boston.

Coming out as gay in today’s world is easier than it once was, but that doesn’t mean it’s easy. Northeastern’s student theatre group Acting Out decided to explore this issue on the stage in “Come Out, Come Out, Wherever You Are,” which was performed Sunday. They invited the audience to contribute to a dialogue about the thought-provoking topic after the show.

As I gazed up at the scorching Italian sun, heat was the last thing on my mind. I was standing in breathtaking Venice, Italy, barely able to take in the overwhelming beauty of my surroundings.

The caution tape adorning the scene at afterHOURS was surprisingly necessary Wednesday – it was there to go along with the 2011 Springfest theme, NUTORIOUS, but ended up serving as a warning for the night to come.

Japan might be a little too far to travel for tea, but Northeastern students can walk a few blocks to experience the culture by learning about Japanese tea customs.

A headrest, a sitting cushion, a weapon. The pillow is such a necessary item to everyday comfort, but is often overlooked and forgotten. Yet, Saturday, April 2, the pillow brought about 1,500 costumed people together in Cambridge Common for International Pillow Fight Day.

I am writing this guest column to you from a bunker right outside of Beirut, Lebanon. Grenades are constantly whizzing by my head as I make my way to class. Everywhere I turn women in burqas surround me, judging me for exposing my hair and illegally streaming “Teen Mom.” Oh, and there is a dusty, landmine-ridden desert all around me, as far as the eye can see. This is what I’ve come to expect as my daily routine in this God-forsaken country. Jeepers, this place really is just like Western media makes it look! In actuality, the only bunker I’ve been in here is one that has been turned into an after-hours dance club. Beirut couldn’t be any more Western if there were a McDonald’s right across the street from the main gate of my university – oh wait, there is.

“How many of you guys have seen me on ‘Community’?” asked Donald Glover, who plays goofy jock Troy Barnes on the NBC comedy. “Well, this is going to be nothing like that.” The sold-out crowd in Blackman Auditorium responded with enthusiastic applause and whistling.

Entertainer Steve-O brought his unique style of humor to Blackman Auditorium Monday night. The “Jackass” star became famous for his outlandish stunts and wild television sketches. The event was sponsored by the Council for University Programs  as part of Springfest.
