The Northeastern men’s basketball team (6-17, 2-10 CAA) lost to the Stony Brook Seawolves (15-10, 7-5 CAA) 69-55 Feb. 7. This marked the Huskies’ sixth consecutive loss, and with it, the team surpassed the 15 losses it had in the 2024-25 season.
The first three and a half minutes of the game were scoreless — with 12 missed shots total — before junior guard Mike Loughnane netted a 3-pointer off a Seawolves turnover. Junior guard JB Frankel added a 3-pointer to establish the Huskies in the game.
Northeastern maintained a slim lead for the next seven minutes before a 3-pointer by freshman guard Andrej Shoshkikj turned the tide for Stony Brook, 10-8. The Seawolves then went on a 20-3 run over four and a half minutes to stretch the gap to 19 points, 30-11.
Sophomore guard Ryan Williams stole the ball and sent the Huskies on the run. Frankel capped off the effort with a 3-pointer to close the gap to single digits at 35-17 with just under four minutes left in the half. This effort was quickly undone when a Husky foul sent graduate student guard Rob Brown III to the line, where he sank both to put the gap back at 10 points. The Seawolves maintained the 10-point lead going into the break at 29-19.
The Seawolves maintained their command of the game in the second half, stretching the lead out to 16 points at 41-25 after four minutes. Stony Brook improved its shooting to 57.7% in the second half, significantly above Northeastern’s 38.7%. The Huskies were unable to make any headway into the Seawolves’ lead despite going 8-4 in the final two minutes, ending the game at 69-55.
Loughnane led the scoring for the Huskies with 17, followed by Frankel with 11. This was Northeastern’s lowest-scoring game of the season so far.
The Huskies will take on the William and Mary Tribe (15-9, 6-6 CAA) Thursday, Feb. 12 at 7 p.m. in the Cabot Center for the Black History Month game.
